both / either / neither

1. both, either, neither は２つまたは２人のものについて用いる。both は複数として扱い、either と neither は単数として扱う。
2. both: 「どちらも」。代名詞および形容詞として用いる。
   
   Both of them are learned.
   Both her parents are old.
   
   
3. both が否定詞と結びつくときは、部分否定で、どちらか一方を否定する。
4. both が形容詞のときは the を省略できる。
5. either:いずれか一方を示す。代名詞および形容詞として用いる。
   
   Either of you is to go.（君たちのうちどちらかが行くべきだ。）
   You may take either half of the cake.
   
   
6. neither = [not+either] 代名詞および形容詞として用いる。
   
   Neither of their answers is right. （答えはどちらも正しくない。）
   Neither rumour is true. （どちらの噂もほんとうではない。）
   
   
7. 相関接続詞：either ... or .../ neither ... nor ...
   
   Either you or he has to wait.（君か彼かどちらかが待たなければならない。）
   Neither you nor I am wrong. (あなたも私もどちらも間違っていない。)
